bold & contemporary

Annie Hooker is a Northern California-based artist who has established herself in the American West. Her work can be best described as a contemporary western.

Her paintings can be found in galleries in Aspen CO, Truckee CA, and Carmel-by-the-Sea CA. She belongs in numerous private and public collections, notably Renown Hospital in Reno, NV.

When asked for a simple description, Annie describes her artwork saying she’s a painter of “people and animals”.

But there is much more to her paintings than just their subject. Annie uses a bold technique of acrylic painting without blending. Color mixing being the most critical part of her process and freely departs from being bound by the tones of nature only. Why can’t a buffalo be blue? Or a deer be red?
